The Dog
[bit of reminiscing from last year, thanks to lisa, chris and gracie...]
Satchmo was the first dog who licked my teeth at dawn while tearing my
bed apart and all I could do was laugh while I watched her shake the
yellow pieces of foam with an energy and playfulness that was
contagious. I loved living at 13 Cherry Street; a lumbering, green
mass of decrepidness full of 6 women and 8 dogs, or 8 women and 6
dogs. A house of tea, of broccoli stirfrys for Mookie and Mason, of
phone calls around the clock, of Eliza's doodles (all 19,000 of them
featuring Satchymo of course) but mostly I remember the amazing people
and the sweet dogs. Walks with Eliza and Satchmo to the Smith trails,
or the river for a swim, or to Pops for some Newcastle to share with
Pawla were always an adventure. You just never knew when someone would
get into a fight or roll in the remains of a dead animal. Satchmo and
Bask found the latter one summer afternoon and just reveled in it.
They rolled, sniffed and rubbed until Lisa and Eliza peeled them
away. One night on Cape Cod all 5 of us curled up in a pillow of sand
and slept until the heat of the sun and thundering waves woke us.
That was the night a grown woman had a temper tantrum over the fact
that her poodle ( or some pricey dog) and Satchmo exchanged barks.
Then she had the nerve to unload her unresolved anger on Eliza which
was enough for us to pack up and head for the beach, just us and the
dogs and leave all the annoying humans to their own pathetic time.
That morning on the beach Satchmo and Bask raced up and down the coast
while we made a fire and some coffee. They were beautiful. Satchmo
was and is The Dog. I have always had a special place in my heart for
her. There is a Satchmo look-a-like in Northampton and every time we
see her we remember a story that always makes us smile. Eliza, Satchmo
will always be with you, I really believe it. You have been in my
thoughts even more over the past month. We love you and hope you are
finding some peace and solace.
All our Love, Lisa, Chris, and Gracie
xxoo

ubercrummy & filth
well, for those of you who haven't heard, it's easier than ever to dress like a rascist... the sf chron article quotes the pr firm as saying that they "personally thought asians would love this shirt."
here's the shirts: stupid, stupid, stoopid, and stupid.

lossiversary
it's been a year since satchmo's been gone. hard to believe. bit subdued and sad all day. missing her too much to do anything. meant to do something to mark the anniversary, but suddenly just too tired to do more than paint still lifes (lives?) and wander with kehoe. can't bear to look at photos. perhaps i'll light a candle for her. even tv and chips sounds unappealing.

33
oh, and happy happy anniversary to mom and dad!
that makes it 33 years of domestic insanity. makes my little almost 10 year thing seem so much less of a big deal.

grrls and boi's
went to the apiqwtc lunar new year banquet this year with my taekwondo troupe, i mean school. it was good fun -- we had a funny performance that seemed to go over well. i can't remember a damn thing, but people seemed to laugh in all the right parts, so i'm pleased.
got some flak for wearing a dress. not sure what that was about, as i was as uncouth as ever (pork ribs ummm! messy! har!). but it was fun to dress up and kinda sorta have a date with dees. we don't do that enough. plus, besides the pantyhose falling thing (might be time for a new pair -- they ARE some 10 years old), i had a blast -- going from bad guy with big stick to girl in a dress in one night. drag on drag, i guess.
funny thing, gender, no matter where i sit, i'm not on the right side. as a kid (and even more now) i really was a tomboy -- playing in the dirt, mucking about on old horse trails with my dog.
now, there's whole new gender identities. which i love. no more simple confusion of whether i'm male or female -- "do i harrass you or beat the shit outta you?" -- now there's so many more layers -- the simplistic binary world can't possibly keep up. i love that. but i hate hate hate the shit in the community about who's in and out. if i'm not attractive to you in my regular baggy jeans and regulation t-shirt (same clothes day in and out, aaah), then it's not such a compliment to be suddenly so attractive in a dress. hell, it's too close to all the programming i got growing up -- "you COULD be so pretty if you'd only try..." and the whole ugly dyke vs. asian doll phenomenon.
so i guess i'll never be the femme/butch/boi/grrrl of your dreams, but who the hell said i wanted to be? i got my own thing, thanks.
