well, it's been awhile since I've had the chance to write. been busy with work and various projects, as well as getting ready for another crazy roadtrip [aaah!]

[a cautionary tale]
bit of bamboozlement this morning...and i've come to ask forgiveness. in a rush, going past some dotcom mess in the mission, and I wanted a coffee. lo-and-behold. coffee. so my friend steps in, and comes out with ~starfucks~ .:. -ack-ack- .:. -sigh- .:. -sob- .:.

i know, I shoulda known, but I didn't -- and so, I'm sorry...

...but it's not a big deal, right?
yep, they're just the same place that wants to have "literacy lessons" -- complete with big big sign [illiterate person HERE!] in their coffee shops. so that the yuppies can gawk at the poor lil adult who can't read past grade level 4. so that the yuppies can feel good about vertical crosspollination within a social schema outside of their own [or however they refer to "slumming without messing up the versace/prada outfit" these days]. so that starfucks can be -get this- a community center.

they're the ones that hire artists to paint the murals in their stores, and keep all rights to the work [meaning the artist has to ask to use reproductions of their work in their own portfolio, at least technically].

not to mention how they drive the nice local coffee shops outta business.

well, yeah, so mebbe your local coffee shop is filled with surly girls [tell me where!], or mebbe the work-for-hire clause is a general problem for artists that plenty of companies take advantage of, or mebbe it just tastes good.

that's fine, and certainly no insult meant to anyone [especially not to miz mr, who can do as she pleases, with no ill thoughts from me...]. I'm just embarrassed to be so easily bamboozelled. after all, I'm NOT like the other dotcommers! really, really, I'm not!

ok, ok, so mebbe I was driving through the mission in my SUV, looking like the dotcom scum that I am. and mebbe secretly, I pine for big corporate sponsorships in my life! I want my IPO!!!

rode the orange F train in today - Ozomatli in my head, the city before my eyes, and all manner of soothing details in my ride to work. I looked at fancy cars idling nearby, and knew that my ride was much much hipper than theirs ever would be. sometimes the city is enough.

had a lovely time swimming up in sunol. it was nice and HOT. and moley and minabelle swam more than ever, while baskie leapt from hair-raising heights. got to paint and do sum ahrrt. which was cool, and good for my rampaging anxiety.

it even SMELLED hot and summery all weekend. heat in the air, wet hot pavement, stinky dogs, and so on.

wanderlust
getting ready to go traveling. thinking about my route across country -- anybody want a moley-visit ? finally getting excited -- been a little nervous about the sheer exhaustion that this kind of trip brings on, but looking forward to seeing old friends, and places that feel like old friends in my heart. montana, the dakotas, the seven sisters, lincoln mountain in pelham, the bookmill in montague...

mebbe they'll lemme marry my dog in vermont [that being my longest committed relationship, not some weird fetish].

been grinding my teeth -- or so I surmise, from the tension in my jaw. I guess I'm stressed, tho not sure what it's about [besides everything].

been awhile since I've written - been working on my "sweeps" [see above], busy with werk, and a bit inspired to create on the analog front -- if I can get a scanner to work, I'll put some of my doodles up. I'll keep puttering away at this tho. I think there's a redesign lurking in me, ready to pounce.

hmm. can't figure out relative font sizes in CSS style sheets [setting "font-size: -1" only makes things messy]. anyone have any tips?
